When talking with a manufacturer, most of fashion designers or brand managers wanna get a price at the first stage . But at this period, the price would be higher or not right. Why? Because they don't know too much about your design.
First, you need to have a clear drawing or sketch. In this way, as a manufacturer, we can know your design better. Even though you are not professional for drawing, you can prepare similar style pictures and tell your supplier the changes. So when you talk to your manufacture, don't just say I want to make hoodie and what is the price. No one could give you a price or the price is not right. So the first step is you need to let your manufacturer clear about your designs.
Secondly, we need to highlight the important details. In this way, you can reduce the risk of making mistakes. Fashion changes a lot. However, most people wear similar style and differences are the details. So it is very important to talk about the details with the manufacturers. Details need to be perfect. When your manufacturer realize you have some special details, the cost might change too .
Thirdly, you need to tell the fabric and trims you prefer to use. This is a main cost in a price. And supplier also need to know your specific size. Because the fabric usage depends on the size.
The last one is ask for a sample. Don't take a risk to start bulk production before sampling. Even though sampling takes you a lot of money and time, it is a good investment. When the sample is right, the bulk production would be right too. So after sampling, you can get a right price.
